Buford Jordan, former McNeese football great, will give a presentation on “The Business of Sports” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, in McNeese State University’s Parra Ballroom as part of the Executive Speaker Series program sponsored by the McNeese College of Business. The event is free to the public.
At McNeese, Jordan was a four-time All-Southland Conference selection, a four-time All-Louisiana selection, the first player in Southland Conference and McNeese State history to rush for three consecutive 1,000 yard seasons, a two-time Offensive MVP of the Southland Conference and Louisiana teams and second team All-American.
He left McNeese in 1983 as the all-time leading rusher in both school and Louisiana history with 4,156 yards rushing. He was the 14th player picked in the first round of the 1984 USFL draft by the New Orleans Breakers and played two seasons. He was the team’s leading rusher in 1984 with 1,276 yards and 8 touchdowns rushing and in 1985 with 876 yards and 5 touchdowns rushing.
He was voted Outstanding Offensive Player both years by his teammates. In 1985 he played with the Green Bay Packers and then joined the New Orleans Saints as a free agent in 1986. Jordan played seven seasons with the Saints as a fullback and member of special teams. He helped clear a path for Pro Bowl 1,000-yard rushers Rueben Mayes, Dalton Hilliard and Craig (Ironhead) Heyward. He was a member of the Saints’ first winning season, the Saints’ first division title and the Saints’ first four playoff teams. During his career with the Saints, Jordan totaled 1,042 yards with 9 touchdowns.
Jordan is now the owner of Rock Hard Performance Training and provides personal and fitness training to individuals and sports teams. He travels the U.S. and Canada as an adviser and professional trainer and has worked in recent years to bring skill and agility training to Louisiana youth. His latest venture is an attempt to work with youth, particularly from smaller communities, and to create a better channel for collegiate recruiters to scout talent from smaller schools throughout the state.
This program is sponsored by Grace and Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, and in partnership with the Southwest Louisiana Economic Development Alliance and Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity.
