McNeese State University alumnus Adam Johnson has won the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for fiction with his novel, “The Orphan Master’s Son,” set in North Korea.

Dr. Thomas R. Laehn, assistant professor of government at McNeese State University, has just released his first book titled, "Pliny's Defense of Empire," which was simultaneously printed in both the United States and Great Britain by English publisher Routledge. "My book is on the political philosophy of a Roman imperial official named Pliny the Elder," said Laehn. "Pliny was the procurator, or chief financial officer, of several Roman provinces, a personal adviser to the Emperor Vespasian and the author of the world's first encyclopedia, "The Natural History." He died in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in A.D.

Axiall Corp. has donated $5,000 to McNeese State University through the Foundation to be divided between the colleges of business and engineering and engineering technology.
