  McNeese faculty recital set

Lina Morita

A McNeese State University faculty recital will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, at First Methodist Church in Lake Charles. Featured music faculty performers are Lina Morita, assistant professor, William Rose, associate professor, and Dave Scott, associate professor.

Other musicians, which include band directors, church music directors, college professors and McNeese students, are Ricky Peters, trumpet, Brian Shook, trumpet, Jonathan Blake, trumpet, Jeff Lemke, trombone, Kyle Parfait, trombone, Joe Byerly, bass trombone, Lonny Benoit, snare drum, Fred Sahlmann, organ, and James Hearne, conductor.

This free program will feature: “Concertino” by Jacques Casterade; “An Elizabethan Songbook” by Eric Ewazen; “Concertino” by Anthony Plog; “Cousins” by Herbert L. Clarke; and “Poeme Heroique” by Marcel Dupre.

A native of São Paulo, Brazil, Morita received her Bachelor of Music degree from Indiana University, Master of Music degree from Rice University and her doctorate from the Eastman School of Music in Piano Performance and Literature.

Morita has performed in various solo and chamber music venues across the United States and abroad. She has performed with the Lake Charles Symphony, Washington Sinfonietta, St. Mary’s College, University of Southern Mississippi, Tulane University, the Atlas Performing Arts Center in Washtington, D.C., Bertramka Hall in the Czech Republic, Académie Internationale Musicale d’Été de Nice in France and Sociedade Brasileira de Cultura Japonesa in Brazil.

William Rose

Rose, who is also assistant department head and coordinator of technology for the McNeese Department of Performing Arts, teaches the low brass studio, music theory, conducts the brass choir and has served as musical director for music theater productions. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and his master’s degree from Michigan State University. He has performed with the Milwaukee Symphony, Acadiana Symphony, Chorale Acadiene, the Greater Lansing Symphony and the Detroit Chamber Winds and currently serves as principal trombonist with the Lake Charles and the Rapides symphonies.

As a published composer and arranger, his catalog includes works and publications for band, orchestra, jazz ensemble, choir, handbells, mixed chamber ensemble, brass and trombone ensembles. He currently serves as chair of the International Trombone Association Press.

He is a founding member of the LATEX Trombone Quartet, which has performed all over the United States, including the International Trombone Festival. Rose has also held the Henry Alexander Endowed Professorship in Music, is a Yamaha Performing Artist and performs on soprano, alto, tenor and bass trombones, euphonium and tuba.

Dave Scott

Scott teaches trumpet at McNeese and has held the Henry Alexander Endowed Professorship in Music. He received his bachelor's degree in music from DePauw University and his master's degree in music from the University of Louisville. He is a Yamaha Performing Artist, a Louisiana Touring Artist and is a voting member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (Grammy Awards).

Scott has performed as a recitalist/clinician throughout the United States with orchestras such as the Louisville Orchestra, Palm Beach Opera, Spokane Symphony, Lake Charles Symphony and the Midland-Odessa Symphony Orchestra and as an artist at the Sewanee Summer Music Festival.
