The McNeese State University Engineering Technology program has earned re-accreditation by the Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET Inc. (formerly the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology), the recognized accreditor of college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering and technology.
“ABET accreditation is a significant achievement,” said Dr. Nikos Kiritsis, dean of the college of engineering and engineering technology at McNeese. Currently, ABET accredits some 2,700 programs at more than 550 colleges and universities nationwide.
“We have worked hard to ensure that our program meets the quality standards set by the profession. And because it requires comprehensive, periodic evaluations, ABET accreditation also demonstrates our program’s continued commitment to provide McNeese students with a quality education—both now and in the future,” said Kiritsis.
The McNeese engineering technology program includes both the Associate of Science and Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology degrees with concentrations in electronics, instrumentation and process plant.
Kiritsis pointed out how important accreditation is to several of the program’s constituents.
“Accreditation assures area high school students, along with their parents, that McNeese’s engineering technology program is a quality program,” said Kiritsis.
“And to employers, graduate schools and registration, licensure and certification boards, graduation from our accredited program signifies adequate preparation of those graduates for entry into the profession. ABET accreditation is assurance that we meet the quality standards established by the profession,” he added.
