Biography
Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Gus retired as Director of Research
Services and Director of the Louisiana Environmental Research Center at McNeese State
University in Lake Charles. Educational background includes a B.S. degree
in Forestry from LSU - 1965 and a M.S. in Fisheries Biology from LSU - 1967.
Experience includes:
- Director of the McNeese Research Services Department.
- Deputy Oil Spill Coordinator for the State of Louisiana/Governor's Office.
- Developed Oil Spill Response Management Course still being offered through
the Governor's Office.
- Environmental Advisor for Marine Spill Response Corporation - Gulf Region.
- Developed guidelines and procedures for the in-situ burning of spilled oil
that lead to pre-approval by the Regional Response Team and adoption of a burn
plan by the U.S. Coast Guard.
- Special Assistant to Ex-Governor Roemer's Coastal Restoration Program.
- Liaison Officer for the "Brine Line Environmental Monitoring Project -
West Hackberry" - SPR/McNeese.
- Fisheries Research - Coastal Louisiana, pre-spill assessments on various
habitats (on-going).
