A Look at Louisiana's Geologic Past: Fossil Identification (Gr 6 & Up)

Louisiana gravel is more than just rocks and pebbles. It is made up of rock formed hundreds of millions of years ago on the sea bottom.Gravel in Louisiana was deposited here by glacial melt water during the end of the last ice age. Students will examine samples of gravel and will identify impressions of ancient marine life such as shellfish, corals and other animals. Students will also learn about the economic importance and common uses of gravel.
