WHAT IF I HAVE A SCHEDULE CONFLICT WITH THE AUDITION DAY?

Please call the Director at 337-475-5604

DO I NEED TO KNOW A DANCE ROUTINE?

No. We will teach you a dance on Saturday morning and you will be required to perform several dance skills for the judges in addition to the dance learned.

DO I HAVE TO ATTEND THE AUDITION WORKSHOP?

No.  The Friday night workshop is not mandatory.  However, it will be helpful in preparing for auditions the next day.  The audition dance will not be taught at this workshop.  We will be going over required dance skills and answering questions about auditions and the team.

WHAT DO I WEAR FOR TRYOUTS?

Black jazz pants with any color crop-top that reveals the midriff area. A jazz shoe or jazz sneaker/boot of your choice. You may practice in any clothes you wish and change prior to the audition. Bring hair and makeup accessories because appearance and presentation is part of the criteria of points and you will have time to get “performance ready” for tryouts. We are a dynamic performance team and all applicants should look their best for auditions.

HOW MUCH DOES WEIGHT AND APPERANCE AFFECT THE TRYOUT?

All applicants should be in good physical condition/shape in order to keep up with the demands of the dance team. You will never be under weight restrictions however, it is required for you to look your best for your body frame type. Once chosen, all girls meet with the dance coach that will help you set up a personal fitness program in order to meet or maintain you optimal fitness level and ideal weight.

IS THERE AN AUDITION FEE?

Yes. $10 is due with your application and payable to Cowgirl Kickers.

IS THE PUBLIC ALLOWED TO VIEW TRYOUTS?

Absolutely not! Only the judges and officers/Sr. members helping with the dance are allowed.

WHAT SKILLS DO I HAVE TO DEMONSTRATE AT THE TRYOUTS?

Layout Toe touch Double and triple pirouettes

WHEN DO YOU FIND OUT IF YOU MADE THE SQUAD?

Students auditioning can call the Director’s number @ 337-475-5604 and find out the results on the Monday evening following the auditions. New members will have their first meeting the week  following tryouts.

HOW MUCH DO YOU PRACTICE?

Class meets weekly on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday form 12:00-2:00 pm and Thursday nights from 5:00-7:00 pm. Band practice is on Saturday for home football game weeks. Some weeks we do not have practice, depending on our performance schedule. If a major spring trip has been determined, extra practice time will be scheduled accordingly.  There will be no major trip for the 2008-2009 season.

WHERE DO KICKERS PERFORM?

The group performs at all home football and basketball games. We also have one out of town football game to be decided on in the fall as well as performances at the SLC Basketball Tournament. Our dance team performs for many civic functions in Southwest Louisiana, and is called upon quite often for other performances and appearances throughout the year. The team also performs at all McNeese spirit functions on campus.  Selected spring semesters, an out of state performance trip is scheduled.

IS THERE A SCHOLARSHIP?

Yes….a basic first member receives a $600.00 scholarship for the year, based on successfully performing two semesters. The scholarship then escalates about $100.00 extra per year of completion of service. It also waives out-of-state fees. The scholarship is given at the end of each semester except in special circumstances.  You will also receive 2 credits toward your semester hours each semester.

WHAT DOES IT COST?

Our corporate sponsor furnishes all uniforms and the university pays for practice clothes, warm-ups, and accessories. The members are responsible for purchasing the selected style dance shoe. Fundraising events will supplement travel cost when a major spring trip is selected.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

Must have a 2.0 average in order to be eligible to audition as well as have met the requirements for admission to McNeese. Must maintain a GPA of 2.0 (2.5 for out-of-state students) each semester of service. Must earn 12 hours per semester.
