What is Naturelab?

Welcome to Naturelab - Classroom in the Woods.

Naturelab began in 1995 as an idea generated by the Wildlife Habitat Committee at the Axiall (formerly PPG) Lake Charles Complex. This group of dedicated Axiall employees regularly volunteers their time and expertise to protect natural habitat areas and wildlife species at the Axiall Complex. The Naturelab concept was a natural addition to their efforts.

Naturelab is a 200-acre parcel of undeveloped property immediately west of the Axiall Complex and Interstate 210. Axiall employees, our contractors, and dozens of volunteer educators and nature experts have helped us design and produce an outdoor classroom, nature trails and learning curricula for all age groups. The primary focus of Naturelab is to help the people of Southwest Louisiana, especially youngsters, learn more about the ecosystems and environment in which we all mush live, work, and learn.

Naturelab is a facility for learning. It is not a park, or a playground, or a picnic ground. If you are a teacher, a Scout master, or lead a group of youngsters, and you want to learn more about Naturelab and how you can use it at no-charge to you and your organization, please contact Gary Kratzer at 337-475-5817 or gkratzer@mcneese.edu
