Professional and Educational Value

The Holbrook Student Union & Activities Graduate Assistant will work as an additional professional for the Holbrook Union Office.  This individual will serve as a liaison between McNeese students and Union Office staff, keeping students abreast of policies and procedures that may affect them.  In addition, this individual will receive general experience in the higher education field and be exposed to operations in many other University departments.  This graduate assistant should gain the ability to blend in with student culture, while simultaneously asserting necessary actions to meet the mission and goals of the University Services department and McNeese State University.

 

Expectation of Time

This position begins no earlier than January 7, 2013. Graduate Assistants are evaluated each semester to determine their eligibility for returning the following semester.

 

Compensation

  • $10.00/ per hour, 20 hours per week for 16 semester weeks
  • One-half tuition exemption
  • Bookstore scholarship up to $400, any remaining balance will be applied to a “Cowboy Bucks” meal plan

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Holbrook Student Union & Activities with supervision of the Student Union Board, Student Government Association, Leadership Programming, Multicultural Programming, and Greek Life
  • Determine strategies for further success in each area and effectively communicate them
  • Assist the Director of Holbrook Student Union & Activities with the supervision of other McNeese student organizations and their activities
  • Assist the Director of Holbrook Student Union & Activities with the implementation of Union technology initiatives
  • In coordination with other Holbrook Student Union & Activities Graduate Assistants, helps plan and manage programs conducted by the Union Office
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Holbrook Student Union & Activities or other Union Office/University Services staff

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be in good academic and discipline standing with the University
  • Must be able to adequately fulfill all of the job duties and responsibilities
  • Must be able to work nights/weekends and travel as necessary
  • Must have good interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to communicate in English fluently

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience and leadership in a collegiate student organization or equivalent affiliation
  • Experience with Greek life as a member or partner
  • Experience working with a student government association or programming board
  • At least a 2.5 cumulative undergraduate GPA
