Research Scientist/Assistant Professor

McNeese State University invites qualified applicants and nominations for the position of Research Scientist/Assistant Professor in the Department of Agricultural Sciences.  This is a full-time, 12–month,unclassified, tenure-track position.  The appointment is available immediately. 

Position Description and Responsibilities:  The Research Scientist/ Assistant Professor will establish a research program in the area of native and non-native plant materials for biomass with subsequent conversion to biofuel and restoration of native prairies in Southwest Louisiana.  Work with alternative plant sources such as prairie grass, switch grass, sugar cane, rice, wood chips, and other materials to produce cellulosic ethanol.  Develop and provide leadership to graduate and undergraduate students.  Engage in fund raising through external and internal grants.  Work with local producers on current agronomic problems through field days, short courses, workshops, and one-on-one interaction.  Provide an annual research report on research projects. Work with agricultural faculty recruiting students in the agricultural field.  Implement a recruiting program highlighting female achievements in the agricultural field and targeting females to enter the agricultural sciences field.  Serve as instructor of record for one course per semester. Perform other duties as needed.
 
Qualifications:  Required: Ph.D. in Agronomy or related field of study.  At least two years of agricultural research experience after completing doctoral work.  Demonstrated success seeking and obtaining grant funding for research and disseminating research results.

Salary: $65,000.00
