McNeese State University invites qualified applicants and nominations for the position of Instruction Librarian in Frazar Memorial Library.  This is a full-time,12- month, unclassified, non-tenure track position.  The appointment is available after January 1, 2008.

Position Description and Responsibilities: The Instruction Librarian’sresponsibilities include the following:

  • Assisting in the development of the information literacy program.
  • Integrating information literacy into the campus-wide writing initiative, Write to Excellence.
  • Development and maintenance of the online library instruction presence.
  • Keeping abreast of trends and changes in libraries and librarianship through the reading of professional literature and attending professional meetings, workshops, and conferences.
  • Participation in the library graduate student training program.
  • Performing other duties as specified by supervisor.
  • Reference desk hours.
  • Library and university committee work.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited or equivalent institution. Official transcripts documenting all college degrees must be on file in the office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs, prior to beginning employment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work well with library patrons and staff; effective oral and written communication skills required.
  • Coursework, training, and/or experience in the field of educational theory and curriculum design preferred.
  • Experience in an academic library is preferred.

General Information:  McNeese State University, located in Lake Charles, Louisiana, is a public university and a member of the University of Louisiana System. Salary: $41,000-42,000
