McNeese State University invites qualified applicants and nominations for the position of Assistant Professor of Philosophy in the Department of Social Sciences. This is a full-time, 9 months, unclassified, tenure-track position. The appointment is available in August 2008.
Position Description and Responsibilities: The Assistant Professor of Philosophy is responsible for functions related to teaching eight undergraduate courses a year, four each semester, for the Department of Social Sciences. Teaching responsibilities will be applied ethics: Biomedical Ethics and Ethics in the Sciences. The Assistant Professor of Philosophy is also expected to participate in service to McNeese State University and the surrounding community. Research is also expected of the Assistant Professor of Philosophy. The Assistant Professor of Philosophy will work closely with the College of Nursing and other departments across the campus as needed.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in Philosophy strongly preferred but ABD will be considered. Areas of Specialization and Area of Competency are open. But teaching responsibilities will be primarily in the area of applied ethics: Biomedical Ethics and Ethics in the Sciences.
