The Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences at McNeese State University invites qualified applications for an Assistant Professor of Biological Science position. This is a full-time, 9–month,unclassified, tenure-track position. The appointment begins August 15, 2008. McNeese State University is located in Lake Charles, Louisiana, a city with a population of approximately 74,000 located 30 miles east of the Louisiana-Texas border.
Position Description and Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be responsible for functions related to teaching, research, and university and community service. Teaching will include introductory biology (majors and/or non-science majors) as well as advanced courses. The ability to teach vertebrate biology courses is desirable. Teaching responsibility will be 12 contact hours per regular semester. Summer teaching also may be available. The successful candidate also is expected to develop a research program involving undergraduate students (research area open).
Qualifications: Required: Ph.D. in biology or related field, excellent written and oral communication skills, potential for mentoring undergraduate research students. Preferred: College-level teaching experience and the ability to teach vertebrate biology courses.

Salary: $48,000 (non-negotiable)
