"Cowboy Strong" is the theme of McNeese State University's 2013 Homecoming celebration Oct. 12-19 with a number of activities for students, alumni and the community.  Events this year include a blood drive competition, oozeball, the homecoming parade, pep rally and fireworks, a golf tournament, door decorating contest, tailgating and the announcement of the Homecoming King and Queen - all leading up to the big Homecoming game Saturday night in Cowboy Stadium against Sam Houston State University.
McNeese is partnering with LifeShare Blood Centers here in Lake Charles against Lamar University and LifeShare Blood Centers in Beaumont in a friendly blood drive competition that ends Nov. 20. The Cowboys travel to Beaumont for the final regular season game Nov. 23 against Lamar and the university that collects the most units of blood will be presented a trophy during a halftime ceremony.   The community can participate at any mobile coach or at the LifeShare Center at 214 Dr. Michael Debakey Dr. - be sure to mention McNeese at the time of donation. Students, faculty and staff can drop by the donor coach parked in Memorial Gym parking lot from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday Homecoming week to show support for their Cowboys.
Oozeball - volleyball played in mud - is a student tradition at Homecoming. Teams slip and slide through the tournament for fun and a trophy. This year's event on Wednesday, Oct. 16, is moving to the front lawn of Frasch Hall.
The Homecoming parade is scheduled to roll down Ryan Street at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17, with members of the 1963 McNeese football team as parade marshals. The team is celebrating its 50-year anniversary as McNeese's first undefeated football team. McNeese swept through eight opponents during the 1963 season to win the Gulf States Conference title.
The pep rally takes place immediately after the parade inside Cowboy Stadium, where the 2013 Homecoming King and Queen will be revealed. A fireworks display sponsored by the McNeese Alumni Association and its corporate sponsor CHRISTUS St. Patrick Hospital will follow the pep rally.

The Cowboys are playing the Bearkats of Sam Houston at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, in Cowboy Stadium. The 2013 Homecoming Court will be introduced during halftime ceremonies.

The McNeese Bookstore will be open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday with the latest collegiate apparel for Cowboy fans to wear to the game that night.
Events are sponsored by the Student Union Board (475-5644), Student Government Association (475-5605) and the McNeese Alumni Association (475-5232).
