Admission into the Graduate Certificate in Academically Gifted Education
A potential candidate must be admitted into the Dore' School of Graduate Studies. To be admitted into the Graduate Certificate in Academically Gifted Education the following additional requirements must be met.
- A candidate must hold a valid teaching certificate. A temporary teaching certificate is not acceptable.
- A candidate must hold a baccalaureate degree
CurriculumThe following courses meet the prescribed coursework requirements for the Louisiana Department of Education endorsement for Academically Gifted Education. Please note that the Louisiana Department of Education may have additional requirements for earning an add-on endorsement. Below is the list of course requirements:
EDUC 686: Characteristics of Gifted Individuals
EDUC 687: Social and Emotional Needs of the Gifted
EDUC 688: Methods for Teaching the Academically Gifted
EDUC 689: Creative Thinking and Problem Solving
- No grade below "C" and more than 3 credit hours of "C" work can be applied toward the degree.
All candidates are required to complete an during the first two weeks of the semester in which completiong of coursework is expected. The Application for Certificate should be submitted to the Office of Graduate Education Programs by the due date posted in the current academic catalog.
