The McNeese State University Gambling Treatment Program is located on the McNeese campus in the Department of Psychology on the first floor of Farrar Hall. Our mission is to reduce the prevalence and impact of problem gambling on individuals and families. We provide free, outpatient treatment for individuals and families impacted by the use of drugs, alcohol, or gambling. Behavior change is a challenge and our professional counselors are dedicated to assisting individuals and families by promoting awareness, research, prevention, and treatment in a safe, supportive, confidential, non-judgemental environment.
For individuals concerned about gambling behaviors, or for family members concerned about a loved one's gambling, help is available. We provide specialized out-patient treatment services for compulsive gamblers and their families from Southwest Louisiana. The treatment services are conducted on the McNeese campus by licensed, specifically trained counselors, using evidence-based treatment strategies. Treatment services are individually tailored to meet the needs of each person in treatment, are free of charge and confidential. The McNeese Gambling Treatment program is funded by the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals and has been delivering gambling treatment services to the community for more than 10 years. More than 80% of those individuals who complete the program stop gambling. In addition, overall improvement in co-occurring anxiety and depression also improve with treatment. The program offers screening and assessment services, individual and group-based treatment services, along with family-based services depending on client need.
