TIPS FOR RESPONSIBLE GAMING

Recognize that urges to gamble are normal responses for individuals that are trying to reduce their gambling. In fact, they may be even stronger than they were before. These urges are temporary and will pass. Here are some tips to help you to progress toward more responsible gaming activities:

  • Gamble for entertainment, not as a way to make money

  • Consider any loss to be the cost of entertainment

  • Set a budget ahead of time and stick to it

  • Make gambling one of many leisure activities you participate in

  • Don’t borrow money to gamble

  • Avoid on-site cash machines for additional gambling money

  • Avoid on-line (Internet) gambling activities

  • Set a time limit and stick to it

  • Gambling should be low priority – it should not interfere with or substitute for family

  • Gambling should be a social experience – avoid gambling alone

  • Avoid gambling when depressed

  • Quit when bored or tired

The Project is neither for nor against gambling.
