RISK SIGNS OF PROBLEM GAMBLING

If an individual has any number of these signs, this could be a “signal” of problem gambling behavior and The MSU Project for the Treatment of Problem Gambling is here to help. Some risk signs include:

  • Gambling for longer periods of time

  • Pre-occupation with gambling – frequent thinking about and preparing for gambling

  • Gambling more and/or increasing amount wagered to “win back” money lost (e.g. chasing)

  • Frequent, unexplained absences from home or work and undue secrecy

  • Gambling to escape problems

  • Increasing debt related to gambling

  • Lying or criminal activity to finance gambling

  • Decline in personal care

TIDBIT:
Some individuals with gambling problems believe “luck” will positively affect there chance to win. For example, playing a slot machine for an extended length of time will increase their chances of winning. This has no effect on chance. Chance is chance.

The Project is neither for nor against gambling.
