McNeese Choice Card Frequently Asked Questions

McNeese State University has partnered with Higher One, a financial services company focused solely on higher education, to offer faster delivery of refunds to students. Here are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about the all-new McNeese Choice Card and this new refund process.

Who Gets A Refund?

Students may receive refunds related to financial aid, scholarships, account over payments or other financial transactions with the University.

How Are Refunds Delivered To Students?

Students can select one of three options to receive their refund.

  1. Easy RefundSM deposit to the OneAccount, a no monthly fee checking account (refunds available the day McNeese releases them to Higher One). If you select this option for your refund you can use your McNeese Choice Card at the ATM operated by Higher One located in the Old Ranch near the Cafeteria.
  2. Direct deposit to your bank account (ACH process) and refunds available in 2-3 business days.
  3. Receive a paper check (refunds available in 5-7 business days) sent to your mailing address.

How Do I Select My Refund Option?

Go to McNeeseChoiceCard.com and activate the McNeese Choice Card. Then you select your refund preference.

What Is The McNeese Choice Card?

It is a Debit MasterCard® issued to you by Higher One. It is NOT a credit card, but it can be used like a debit card.

How Do I Get A McNeese Choice Card?

Higher One sent a green envelope containing the McNeese Choice Card and instructions to your official (home) address before the semester started.

What Do I Do When I Receive My McNeese Choice Card?

Go to McNeeseChoiceCard.com and select your refund preference. Follow the steps to activate your McNeese Choice Card and select to have your refund put on the debit card, direct deposited into your checking account or have a check sent to you.

Do I Need Anything Except The Card?

You will need your Banner ID, social security number and driver's license to activate the McNeese Choice Card and select your refund preference.

What Exactly Is The OneAccount?

The OneAccount is a fully functioning FDIC Insured checking account with no minimum balance and no monthly fees. Selecting the OneAccount allows you to access your refunds quicker and easier than ever before and offers a world of great benefits such as:

  • FREE Internet banking features.
  • The ability to make purchases anywhere Debit MasterCard is accepted.
  • You may also withdraw cash with no fees at the Higher One ATM located on campus in the Old Ranch near the Cafeteria.

What Are The Advantages Of Having My Refunds Deposited Directly To My OneAccount?

  • Depositing your refund to the OneAccount and selecting an Easy Refund is the quickest way to gain access to your refund money.
  • The McNeese Choice Card is NOT A CREDIT CARD. However you can use it for purchases at all participating merchants that accept Debit MasterCard, get cash at ATMs, pay bills and more.
  • Parents and friends can easily send you money online with a simple email and a linked bank account.

Will I Know When My Financial Aid Or Other Refund Has Been Direct Deposited To My OneAccount?

Yes! Higher One will send an email to the address you entered during activation when your refund has been deposited to your OneAccount. Additionally, you can view the details of your OneAccount by accessing your statement online at McNeeseChoiceCard.com or by signing up to receive text messages sent directly to your cell phone with Mobile Alerts.

Can I Have My Refund Deposited To Another Bank Account?

Yes! You may have your refund deposited to the bank of your choice. In order to have your refund deposited to your bank, activate your refund preference as soon as you receive the card by visiting McNeeseChoiceCard.com. During the activation process, select ACH Transfer to other bank for your refund preference and simply complete, print and send the required third party form to the designated address. The form will be available online during the activation process.

Why Is The MasterCard Brand Mark On My New McNeese Choice Card?

The McNeese Choice Card can be used to make purchases wherever Debit MasterCard is accepted. It is important to note that the McNeese Choice Card is NOT A CREDIT CARD, but rather a DEBIT CARD backed by the purchasing power of the MasterCard network.

How Do I Use The McNeese Choice Card

If you choose to access your refund with the McNeese Choice Card, you can use the card like a debit card. When you make a purchase using the card always select "credit," not "debit," in order to avoid additional fees and keep your transaction secure. Debit purchases made with a PIN are less secure and will result in fees charged to your account.

Do I Have To Use The McNeese Choice Card?

No. You can have your refund deposited into a checking account or you can receive a check in the mail.

What Is The Fastest Way to Receive My Refund?


Choose to have your refunds deposited directly into your OneAccount-a fully functioning FDIC Insured checking account-is the fastest way to receive your refund.

What If I Threw The Card Away Or I Can't Find My Card?

Will I Receive A New Card Each Semester?

No, you will only receive one McNeese Choice Card. You may have received a McNeese Choice Card even if you did not receive a refund. You will not receive a duplicate card or a card for every semester that you are enrolled.

Can I Change A Refund Preference?

Yes! Go to McNeeseChoiceCard.com and follow the steps to select another option.

What If I Do Not Activate My McNeese Choice Card?

If you do nothing and do not use the McNeese Choice Card to select a refund method, a refund check will be sent to you within 21 days after refunds are disbursed. All checks will be issued by Higher One, not McNeese, and they will be sent to your official address in Banner.

I Don't Think I Will Ever Get A Refund. Why Is It Important To Select A Refund Preference?

Although you might not currently expect a refund from McNeese State University, we may have a refund for you in the future. After all, it may be necessary to drop a class, a class may be canceled or you may simply receive a scholarship or assistance you were not anticipating. Selecting your preferred method to receive refunds from McNeese ensures you'll always receive your refunds in a timely manner.

Will I Receive Email From Higher One?

Yes, you will also begin getting email from "McNeese Choice Card" and Higher One with additional information about your options.
