McNeese Offers Summer Engineering Academy

(May 28, 2015) A summer engineering academy for students entering grades 9-12 will be offered July 13-31 by the McNeese State University College of Engineering.

The two-week summer program offers a broad exposure to engineering disciplines to high school students interested in pursuing science and engineering careers. The academy presents hands-on projects dealing with real life issues in the chemical, civil, electrical and mechanical divisions of engineering.

Day trips are scheduled for the NASA Space Center in Houston, Texas, Creole Nature Trail, New Orleans, Avery Island, Bel’s Hackberry Hunting Lodge and a canoe trip on the Ouiska Chitto River.

Participants will also have the opportunity to use a STARLAB portable planetarium and learn how to navigate the night sky using a variety of telescopes.

Cost is $1,550 per student and includes on-campus housing, meals, transportation and lab supplies.
