Computer Requirements for Blackboard Courses
Students must be computer literate and have access to the following computer hardware and software to successfully complete the Blackboard Courses:
Computer Skills
- Ability to use web browsers
- Ability to enter Uniform Resource Locators (URL's )
- Ability to download files from the Internet
- Be able to complete online forms
- Be familiar with web-based email
Computer Hardware
- Access to Internet Service - Dial up/56K modem minimum, cable modem preferred (the faster, the better)
- Printer (occasionally you may want to print documents)
- Monitor that will display at least 800x600 pixels (1024x768 preferred)
Software
- Windows 2000 or better (XP, Vista) running Internet Explorer 6+ or Firefox 1.0+. Firefox is free software available at http://getfirefox.com
- Macintosh OSX running Internet Explorer 5.2+, Firefox 1.0+ or Safari 1.2+
- Blackboard does not support any of the AOL browsers
- Java, JavaScript, and cookies must be enabled in your browser of choice
- Pop-up blocking software may need to be disabled to properly access Blackboard
- Although not required to use Blackboard, Word Processing Software will be needed to view some course documents. Microsoft Office is preferred. OpenOffice is acceptable. OpenOffice is free software available at http://www.openoffice.org. Using other word processing software besides Microsoft Office may require you to save files in Rich Text Format (RTF) or Text Format (txt) so your instructor can access them.
