Mission Statement
The Ann Rosteet Hurley Center for Economic Education's mission parallels the mission of the Burton College of Education, McNeese State University, the Louisiana Council on Economic Education and the National Council on Economic Education. Functioning as an institutional entity with the university, the Center marshals resources into an efficient, cohesive, production unit for the purpose of furthering economic education within the university, schools throughout Southwest Louisiana, and all interested sectors of the community. Specifically, the Center for Economic Education provides: 1) INSTRUCTION to prepare teachers with content and skills to integrate economics into the K-12 curriculum; 2) SERVICE in the areas of the consultation and resources to educators within the seven parish district; 3) RESEARCH to survey and analyze programs and projects to determine educational needs and effectiveness; 4) PUBLIC RELATIONS in serving as a communication link between education, business, government and the community.
The Center for Economic Education was established at McNeese State University in 1980 to further the study of economics through teacher training, research and curriculum development. Programs are delivered by the Center which is affiliated with the Louisiana Council on Economic Education and the National Council on Economic Education
An economically literate population is critical to the well-being of our nation. The goal of the Center is to ensure that all students learn how America’s economy works and understands their role in the economic system. To this end the Center prepares teachers with content and skills to integrate economics into the K-12 curriculum.
Effective economic education in America’s schools is the key to preparing young people for their own—and for the country’s—future.
