McNeese opens August 17

McNeese State University is preparing to open its doors Aug. 17 to thousands of students for the 2011 fall semester. For returning students, they already know the campus ropes-where to park, where CC's Coffee is located (Frazar Library) and where to get their parking decals and IDs (University Police). Freshmen, on the other hand, are those students wandering around campus with a map in their hands looking for their classes, the bookstore and the Old Ranch (Student Union).

However, there are a few changes and some deadline reminders that all McNeese students need to be aware of for the fall.

STUDENT ID CARDS
All students, whether old or new, will need new student ID cards this semester and these can be taken from 7:45 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the University Police Office on Ryan Street. University Police upgraded its ID system to integrate into the university's Banner system with the help of McNeese's Information Technology Department. Now whenever the ID card is used, the student's name will pop up verifying that person is a McNeese student. This new card system will also provide more services with the swipe of one card-entrances into the library, computer labs, athletic events, cultural events, dining halls and recreational complex.

OFFICE RELOCATIONS
Several offices have relocated across campus while renovations to Kaufman Hall continue. The Registrar's Office has relocated to the Business Conference Center and the Counseling Center has relocated to the Office of Student Services. Basic and General Studies has moved to Rooms 105 and 108 of Farrar Hall.

RESIDENCE HALL CHECK-IN
Students can start moving into the residence halls from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 11-12 and from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 13 after they check in with Student Housing personnel at the recreational complex. Late check-in begins Aug. 16 at the Housing and Residence Life Office. For more information, call the Student Housing Office at 337-475-5606.

ORIENTATION
McNeese will offer orientation for non-traditional students (ages 24 or older) from 6-8:30 p.m. Aug. 11 in Baker Auditorium of Farrar Hall and the final freshman orientation Aug. 12 from 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m. in Bulber Auditorium. For more information, contact General and Basic Studies at 337-475-5135.

FEE PAYMENTS
Students who have enrolled and registered online for fall semester have until 4 p.m. Aug. 12 to pay fees. Fees can be viewed online through the MyMcNeese Portal or Banner Self-Service. Fee bills will not be mailed. Students can pay fees online using a check or bank draft, MasterCard or Discover credit card or in person at the cashier's office using cash, check or money order. For more information, contact the Accounting Office at 337-475-5107.

FEE DEFERRAL PLAN
A fee deferral plan is offered to students through the administrative accounting office. All registration fees, including tuition, special assessments, class-related fees and meal plan charges, are eligible for the fee deferral plan. Students are required to pay one-half of the total fee amount by 4 p.m. Aug. 12 and the remaining fee payment is due Oct. 3. There is a $30 processing fee. For more information, contact the Accounting Office at 337-475-5107.

PERSONAL TOUCH ACCOUNT
The McNeese Bookstore is now offering PTA accounts through Sept. 16. This interest-free charge plan is available to students to assist them with the purchase of up to $800 in books and supplies. The first payment is due Oct. 17 and the second payment is due Nov. 15. For more information, call the Bookstore at 337-475-5494.
Regular bookstore business hours are 7:45 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, but hours will change during the first two weeks of classes as follows: Aug. 15-18, 7:45 a.m.-7 p.m.; Aug. 19, 7:45 a.m.-5 p.m.; Aug. 22-25, 7:45 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Aug. 26, 7:45 a.m.-5 p.m.

LATE FALL REGISTRATION
Late fall registration is Aug. 15-18. Students can register online at www.mcneese.edu or with their faculty adviser. Students must be admitted to the university prior to registration and should see an adviser to get their alternate PIN, if required, prior to registration.

However, a one-stop late registration help desk will be available to assist those students who have seen their advisers and received their alternate PINs in the Academic Computing Center in Kirkman Hall from 7:45 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, and from 7:45 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, Aug. 16-18.
