Com-STEM
Student Scholarships
In conjunction with McNeese State University, Lamar
State College – Orange is providing opportunities
for students who are interested in degrees in
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
(STEM). This includes
articulations to baccalaureate degrees at
McNeese State University.
The possibilities are endless for those who are
interested in any of the STEM disciplines. Students
who earn degrees in any of these disciplines can
enter multiple career fields and earn very high
salaries.
The Com-STEM scholarship is intended to encourage
students to enter, remain, and graduate from one of
the STEM disciplines.
If you have an interest in Science, Technology,
Engineering, or Mathematics, you should consider
applying for a STEM Scholarship.
Who is eligible?
Any student whether he or she is a recent high
school graduate, a current college student, a
graduated student who wishes to look at a new
career, or an individual who is thinking about
returning to school and who has a sincere interest
in one of the STEM disciplines, is eligible to
become a Com-STEM student and apply for a Com-STEM
Scholarship.
Part-time (registered for a minimum of 6 credits)
and Full-time (registered for a minimum of 12
credits) students are eligible.
What programs at LSCO are considered STEM
disciplines?
Computer Science (AS), Process Technology (C).
Medical Laboratory Technology Program (AAS), and
Natural Science (AS).
What are the criteria for application?

Interest in a STEM discipline.

Willingness to commit to a STEM discipline and
work toward a degree in that discipline.

Application Completely Filled out and received
by Lamar State College – Orange by the due
date noted on the application form.

Most current high school and/or college
transcripts attached to application.

Two (2) letters of support from current
instructors or business/industry leaders who can
speak to commitment, interest, and aptitude for
a STEM discipline attached to application.

An 200 word essay describing interest,
commitment, and goals related to the STEM
discipline attached to application.

Enrollment in or registration for a course
required in a STEM discipline degree plan.
How do I apply?
To apply for the STEM Scholarship a student should
fill out an
application and provide the required documents
as listed on the application form.
What is the selection process?
All complete applications that are received on or
before the due date will be reviewed by a selection
committee. Applications will be ranked based on a
combined score from student’s GPA, verification of
commitment to STEM discipline, letters of support,
and essay. High school seniors graduating in
the spring will be notified of selection prior to
graduation.
Incomplete Scholarship Packets, or a Packets
-received after the deadline WILL NOT be reviewed.
What is the amount of the scholarship?
The selection committee will determine the amount of
the scholarship awarded based on the number of
scholarship recipients and the amount of funding
available.
