Department
of Family and Consumer Sciences

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences prepares men and women to become professionals in business, education, and service careers and to use critical thinking and problem solving skills to respond to diverse and complex family and consumer issues in an increasingly global society. The curricula leading to a Bachelor of Science degree have been planned for the purpose of professional career preparation and leadership, as well as preparation for graduate study.

The department offers two degrees:

Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences Education

In addition, the department also offers a Dietetic Internship (DI), a post-baccalaureate program which enables students to meet the supervised practice requirements of the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association (ADA). Students who satisfactorily complete the DI are qualified to take the registration examination for dietitians administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).

Only the Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences with the Dietetic option is supported by the Com-STEM program.
