Purpose:
The Department of History is organized to offer curricula in History, Liberal Studies, and General Studies and to provide service courses in history for other departments of the University. The objectives of the department are :

To offer to students an opportunity to broaden their knowledge of man's past and their understanding of the present.

To provide a liberal education leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree in History for students who major in history.

To provide a minor in history for students who major in another curriculum.

To provide a liberal education leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies for students who prefer not to choose a single academic major.

To provide a minimum liberal education leading to an Associate of General Studies for students who plan on only two years' work at the University.

To prepare exceptionally able students for graduate
study.

The Department of History offers a minor in history. Requirements are as follows: 21 hours of history, including HIST 101 or 102 or HIST 121 or 122; 201, 202 and 410. Graduation Requirements:
A student in the Department of History must meet all graduation requirements listed in the sub-section entitled "Graduation Requirements" found in the general information section of this catalog.
In selecting courses to serve as free electives, students majoring in History or Liberal Studies may apply up to eight (8) semester hours of credit earned in Health and Human Performance activities courses toward the degree requirements of these curricula. Faculty:
