Electronics (ELTR)

310. Programming MicrocontrollersLec. 3 Lab. 3 Cr. 4
Microcontroller fundamentals, chip organization and programming. Development tools used with microcontrollers including assembler and simulator. Prerequisites: ELTR 210;and ELTR 234 or102, CSCI 104,or CSCI 180.

314. Advanced MeasurementsLec. 3 Lab. 4 Cr. 4
Advanced measurement techniques using digital measuring devices and advanced oscilloscopic techniques. No duplicate credit for ELTR 314 and TECH 314. Prerequisites: ELTR 210 and junior standing.

414. Advanced Digital ElectronicsLec. 3 Lab. 3 Cr. 4
Advanced digital electronics using Programmable Logic Devices (PLDs) as the primary means of study. Activities include schematic capture, hardware description languages, simulation, and implementation of more advanced digital circuitry. Pre­requisites: ELTR 210.

480. Advanced Special Topics in Electronics TechnologyLec. 1-3 Lab. 0-3 Cr. 1-4
Advanced special topics in electronics technology. May be repeated as topics vary to accrue a total of 8 hours credit. Prerequisite: Permission of department head.

304. Programmable Logic ControllersLec. 3 Lab. 3 Cr.4
Operations and methods of programming the programmable logic controllers. I/O modules, keyboard operation, scanning, memory and computer interfacing, program­ming of timers, counters, latching circuits, sequences, and other circuits. No duplicate credit for INST 304 and ELCY 304. Prerequisite: ELTR 210.

333. Instrumentation OverviewLec. 3 Lab. 3 Cr. 4
Process control instrument systems used as methods of measurement and control in industry. No duplicate credit for INST 333 and TECH 333. Prerequisite: Permission of department head.


Process Plant (PRTC)

310. Material and Energy BalancesLec. 3 Lab. 3 Cr. 4
Material and energy balances as applied to process systems. Estimation of physical and thermodynamic properties. Prerequisites: PRTC 224 and MATH 170.

314. Heat Transfer and Heat ExchangersLec. 3 Lab. 3 Cr. 4
Application of principles of heat transfer by conduction, convection, and radiation to process heat exchangers and process systems. Prerequisite: PRTC 310.

320. Advanced Utility SystemsLec. 3 Cr. 3
Analysis of process plant utility systems, including: electrical, steam, cooling water, and fuel gas. No duplicate credit for PRTC 320 and PHYS 152. Prerequisite: PRTC 224.

414. Process Computer ApplicationsLec. 1 Lab. 6 Cr. 3
Application of computer programs (Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, ProVision, etc.) for process analysis. Oral and written reports are required. Prerequisites: PRTC 226 and CPST 101.

430. Special Topics in Process Plant TechnologyCr. 1-4
Special topics in process plant technology. May be repeated for credit as topics vary, lecture and/or lab, to accrue a maximum of 9 credit hours. Prerequisite: Permission of department head.


Technology (TECH)

312. Distributed Control SystemsLec. 3 Lab. 3 Cr. 4
Basic study of distributed control systems (DCS) hardware including hands-on application with control and configuration. Prerequisite: INST 234 or permission of department head.

324. Fluid Power Lec. 3 Lab. 3 Cr. 4
Basic hydraulic theory and measurement techniques. Pumps, valves, hydraulic motors, actuators, pilot devices, contamination control methods, and basic reservoirs emphasized. Prerequisites: PHYS 151 or its equivalent.

334. Advanced InstrumentationLec. 3 Lab. 3 Cr. 4
Study of process control loops. Cascaded loops and loop tuning are emphasized. Prerequisite: ELTR 209 and MATH 313, or INST 234 and MATH 313, or PRTC 224, INST 102, and MATH 313.

342. Engineering EconomicsLec. 3 Cr. 3
Introduction to economic decision making. Considers alternatives from an economic standpoint. Also considers taxes and economic forecasting both in private industry and in government enterprises. No duplicate credit for TECH 342 and ENGR 342. Prerequisite: Junior standing.

352. Advanced Fire AdministrationLec. 3 Cr. 3
Organizational and leadership tools for fire service administrators, including community approaches to administration, core skills, planning and implementation, leading change, and community risk management. Prerequisite: Permission of department head.

403. SupervisionLec. 3 Cr. 3
Study of front line supervision techniques. Supervision of production workers and technicians is emphasized. No duplicate credit for TECH 403 and MGMT 410. Pre-requisite: Junior Standing.

420. Special Problems in TechnologyCr. 1-4
Special problems in applied technology systems within the student’s specific area of concentration. May be repeated to accrue a total of 8 hours. Prerequisite: Senior standing or permission of the department head.

50. Advanced Technology Practice4 Cr. 3
Advanced practical technology experience assignment. Evaluation by supervisor and instructor required. Prerequisites: Junior standing and permission of department head.
