The Order of the Engineer Ceremony
The Order of the Engineer was originally founded by a group of engineers in Canada under the name “Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer”. The ceremony included reading a ritual and placing a ring on the small finger of the working hand. During the early 1960’s, in an effort to extend the Canadian ceremony to the United States, the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers pursued the establishment of what was then known in Ohio as “The Order of the Engineer”. The first ceremony in the United States took place at Cleveland State University on June 4th, 1970. Since then, The Order of the Engineer has grown to include tens of thousands of members inducted at Links (local chapters) established in nearly every State in the union. The Order is symbolized by the acceptance of an “Obligation” and the wearing of a stainless steel ring on the little finger of the working hand.
Link 176 was established at McNeese State University on September 27th, 2000. Since that time MSU holds two Ring Ceremonies per year (December and May) for engineering graduates.
