Fundamentals of Acoustics

• Review and understand fundamentals of vibrations
• Solve design problems based on assumption of acoustic plane waves
• Understand and apply transmission phenomena of acoustic waves
• Solve design problems based on assumption of spherical acoustic waves
• Understand and apply acoustic resonators and filters
• Understand and apply adsorption of sound in fluids
• Recognize important aspects of loud speakers, microphones, and acoustic transducers
• Recognize important aspects of speech and noise
• Understand and apply important aspects of room acoustics
• Apply all of the above toward applying noise control analysis and techniques
• Understand sound measuring instrumentation
• A semester project (written and oral) involving some aspect of engineering noise control
