Mechanical Engineering - MEEN 402
Machine Design II
- Design shafts subjected to various fluctuating bending and torsional loads, and less complicated loads.
- Design and/or select appropriate roller or hydrostatic bearings
- Design and/or select various types of gears based on AGMA bending and wear considerations, including spur, helical, bevel and worm set.
- Design various gear trains including simple, compound, reverted, and epicyclic.
- Design various springs for static or fatigue loading including helical compression, extension, and torsional springs
- Design screws subjected to static and dynamic loads
- Design power screws for various requirements
- Design clutches and brakes subjected to a range of loads.
- Present results of a root cause failure analysis of a machine element
- Critique a commercial or consumer product utilizing reverse engineering and present results focusing on how its design can be improved
- Design as a member of a 3 or 4 person team an ASME design project based on ASME’s specifications and present results
