Mechanical Engineering - MEEN 331
Machine Design I
- Solve design problems using a formal approach, using MathCad software where appropriate, and clearly report your results with recommendations
- Exercise judgment in design, both decisions and assumptions
- Recognize and employ design solutions to stress and stress-limited situations, Static or Fatigue Failure
- Recognize and employ design solutions to strain and deflection-limited situations, Deflection Failure
- Recognize and employ design solutions to wear and surface-limited designs, Surface Failure
- Apply failure theories for Ductile and Brittle materials
- Analyze failed machine element for root cause failure and clearly report findings
- Understand and apply Reliability in design and its relationship to Safety
- Optimize designs based on Weight and Cost considerations
- Take field trip to Offshore Technology Conference in Houston (not required) to evaluate a product or service offered by three vendors, and write a report of your findings with recommended vender
- Take field trip to industries (not required) and write a short trip report of your findings
