(Feb. 18, 2013) Memorial Gym will house this spring's McNeese State University Career Fair to be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25. The change in venue is due to the library's relocation into Parra Ballroom while renovations are taking place to the library building.
Eighty-eight companies are sending representatives to the spring career fair, which represents a 22 percent increase of potential employers from spring 2012, according to Kathy Bond, career services director.
With the economy on an upswing in Southwest Louisiana, Bond said participation from employers is definitely increasing. "This is a great venue for applying for jobs without the pressure of the one-on-one interview. Employers are coming to look for talent."
McNeese students of all majors and classifications, as well as alumni, can participate. Graduating seniors seeking to develop job leads, as well as those seeking internships and part-time employment, are encouraged to bring resumes and be dressed appropriately.
"Good preparation and presentation are essential for getting that first job but also for establishing the groundwork for a great career," said Bond. "The fair is a valuable resource to use as a 'dress rehearsal' before the real interview."
She said underclassmen can also take advantage of this opportunity on campus. "It is a good first step to not only network and make that initial contact face to face with prospective employers and representatives but to also obtain information and ask relevant questions about their field of interest and future opportunities."
Bond said the career fair has something for everyone. "For participants, it's all about creating options and opportunities for yourself. The companies are here seeking employees and interns with the skills they need. It's up to the students to follow up and pursue that job opportunity."
Spring sponsors include: CB & I, Cheniere Energy Inc., Chevron, Energy Transfer/Trunkline Gas, Invista, Northwestern Mutual, Polaris Engineering, Sasol North America and Westlake Chemical Corp.
