Career Assessments

Career Assessments provide information intended to lead you to greater self-understanding  about your interests, work values, and prersonality preferences. They can help you to make better decisions about the direction you will take in your educational and career paths.  Assessments can help in the following domains:

     Choosing a college major: understand and identify which fields of study suit you best
     Career exploration: learn how various careers relate to your personal interests 
     Career development: understanding your individual strengths and weaknesses in order to increase work satisfaction
     Leadership development: deepen your understanding of your own personality type to help improve your management skills

Strong Interest Inventory
The Strong measures your intersts on a broad range of occupations, work activities, leisure activities, and school subjects. This assessment is available for a $10 fee to all enrolled McNeese students. 

Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)
This assessment is designed to help you gain insight about yourself, how you interact with others, and your natural personality preferences.  This assessment is available for a $16 fee to all enrolled McNeese students. 

Type Focus
This reliable and valid online assessment measures personality type, interest, and values. This assessment is free to all enrolled McNeese students. Please call 475-5136 for an access code. After you complete this online assessment, you can schedule a career counseling session (call 337-475-5136 to schedule) to discuss how to use your results to make meaningful academic and career decisions. 

I'm interested in a Career Assessment! What do I do now?
1. To take the Strong and/or MBTI, complete a Career Assessment Request Form to recieve instructions for payment and to schedule an appointment to take the assessment. 
2.   Bring your recipt to your assessment appointment to verify that you have paid---we will make a copy for our records.
3. After you complete the assessments, you will schedule a follow-up appointment so that a counselor can review your results with you. You will recieve a copy of your results at the end of  this session.
