Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if online learning is for me?

CALL courses are 100% online, so you have to be comfortable learning on your own, at a fast pace. You also have to be comfortable sitting at your computer! Visit this site www.yourcallla.org/e-learning to read about online learning and take the self-assessment.

What degree programs are offered by the CALL program?

Beginning fall 2008, only the Criminal Justice degree will be offered. In the future, McNeese will begin to offer other degree programs with the goal of offering a variety of 100% online degrees.

How much does the program cost?

CALL classes cost no more than any other classes at McNeese. Since the program is 100% online, students outside the state of Louisiana will not pay Out-of-State tuition. There is an additional fee of $20 per credit hour ($60 per 3-credit class) for online courses. Below is the breakdown of registration fees per hour:

Does the CALL program qualify for financial aid?

Yes, because the CALL Program is a part of an established degree program, all CALL classes qualify for financial aid just like traditional classes. For a CALL student to receive financial assistance they must be enrolled in six or more hours. For more information about the types of financial aid available, contact the McNeese Financial Aid Office at 337.475.5065 or www.mcneese.edu/finaid.

Do my credits and hours from other colleges count at McNeese?

As long as the credit was earned at a regionally accredited institution and is compatible with the degree program, the answer is almost always yes. All transfer credit is subject to the approval of the receiving school. CALL students are required to have previous college experience so it is definitely to your advantage to provide transcripts from all colleges you have attended.

Are there other ways to earn credit?

Yes, McNeese will conduct a Prior Learning Assessment to see if you have acquired college-level knowledge through a variety of life’s experiences. We recognize that people can learn outside the classroom. We can’t give credit just for working, but we can assess the knowledge you have acquired as a result of working. Your CALL representative will explain the procedure in more detail. You need to provide us with a detailed resume of all your work experience, including contact information. We require that you have worked for three years full-time, or longer part-time, because the knowledge you gain can speed up progress toward your degree. It is not necessary that you be working now, only that you have a history of work.

Am I required to take a placement test?

In order to qualify for the CALL program, you must have already earned college-level credit. For that reason, we know you have been successfully admitted to college previously. We don’t require a placement test for the CALL program as long as you meet all other admissions requirements.

Am I allowed to take a CALL class if I am not in the program?

Unfortunately, no. We have reserved the accelerated classes for CALL students. Not everyone should be enrolled in accelerated classes and there is limited space in all classes. Non-CALL students can certainly register in our regular-length classes, both live and online.

If I am already a McNeese student and want to get into the CALL program, what should I do?

First, you will need to fill out a CALL Application Packet. Once accepted into the CALL Program, the Coordinator of Adult Learning & Retention will contact you to guide you through the registration process. If you are just starting your college career, you are still eligible to become a CALL student. McNeese has partnered with LSU-E in a 2 + 2 partnership allowing those adult learners without prior college credit an opportunity to complete the first part of the Crinimal Justice degree online with LSU-E. Then complete the final two years at McNeese. This partnership provides an opportunity for all adult learners interested in Criminal Justice the chance to earn their Bachelor’s Degree. If you have any questions about this partnership, please e-mail adultlearn@mcneese.edu or call 337.562.4239.

Do I need to enroll at McNeese before I can qualify for CALL?

Actually, you can do both at the same time. We do ask that you meet all admisSsions requirements for McNeese in addition to the CALL requirements. You can find more information on the steps to apply by visiting the Admission’s Requirements of the CALL website.

What other degree programs will be offered through CALL?

Several schools around the state are participating in this pilot program, each with designated majors.  We hope to expand the accelerated learning concept to other majors. This expansion will be based upon the responses we get with CALL, the demand for certain programs, and the nature of the program. McNeese and CALL are just getting started, we are confident that the program will grow quickly to serve many more students.
