I. Introduction
Many McNeese faculty use Blackboard to place course materials for their students on the web. With a Blackboard account students  can retrieve and submit assignments, participate in discussion groups, take tests online, and use optional features such as the calendar and address book. 

II. Obtaining a Blackboard Account
To access Blackboard, you will need to be enrolled in a distance learning class or a Blackboard enhanced course. Your instructor will notify you if they are using Blackboard as an instructional tool. As a student, you will have only one logon and one password to as many classes that you are enrolled in. 

All students will have "msu-" before their first initial of their first name, and complete last name.  This is all in lower case.

i.e. msu-jsmith

In the event of common last name combinations the last character will be a digit.

i.e. msu-jthibodeau5

Note that the user ID field length is limited to 15 characters.

Your password will be your birth date without hyphens or slashes following the format of yyyymmdd   i.e. 19780715

Your instructor will either have you enroll via the auto enrollment registration process or you will be manually enrolled.

III. Logging in to Blackboard
Log in to Blackboard as follows:
1. Go to the Blackboard website at http://www.blackboard.mcneese.edu (alternatively, the link to the Blackboard website will be prominently displayed on the McNeese home page at www.mcneese.edu )
2. Click on Login. 

3. Type your username which will be as follows:

4. Next, type your password. Your Blackboard password is set, by default, to your date of birth (yyyymmdd). After you log in, you can create your own password, as explained in Section V, Changing your Blackboard password. 

5. Click on Login. The welcome screen will appear with the the McNeese State University tab selected. 

IV. Helpful Tips
When you are using Blackboard, keep in mind the following: 
1. Click only once on a button. If you double-click, you may not get the information that you want.
2. Do not refresh or reload your browser.
3. Do not click on the Back button of your browser.
4. To exit or terminate your session, use the Log Out feature at the top of the page.
