Call For Evaluation Of Student Oral And Poster PresentationsThe success of the student evaluation program depends on the efforts of volunteer judges. If you are an ASM member planning to attend the 82nd Annual Meeting and would be willing to serve as an evaluator of student papers, please fill out this form and return it to Rob Swihart (address below). Doctoral students who are in their last year of candidacy and who are not themselves being evaluated are invited to serve as judges. Volunteer judges will receive packets of instructions, evaluation forms, and paper assignments prior to the meeting. In order to keep the workload per evaluator low (<10 papers), we would be pleased to hear from as many volunteers as possible. Evaluation Of Student Oral And Poster PresentationsThe American Society of Mammalogists places great importance on the active participation of students at meetings and on excellence in the presentation of research results. To encourage these goals, an evaluation program designed to aid students in presenting oral and poster papers has been established for our annual meetings. Students (undergraduate, graduate, and recent doctorate) who meet eligibility requirements and would like their papers evaluated may so indicate on their Abstract Submission Forms. Papers will be observed by four volunteer evaluators and rated on a scale of 1-10 in the categories of abstract, content, organization, style of presentations, and graphics. Those students receiving an average overall score of 9 or higher will be recognized as outstanding presenters in the November issue of the Journal of Mammalogy. Evaluation forms will be returned to all participating students after the meeting. The evaluation program is open to students who meet the following criteria: 1.) Presenters must be currently enrolled as undergraduate or graduate students or doctorates receiving their degrees after 1 July 2001. 2.) The research must have been done while the presenter was an undergraduate or graduate student and the results must not have been published prior to the abstract deadline. 3.) Single or co-authored papers (when the student is senior author) are acceptable. 4.) Students must be members of the American Society of Mammalogists. Students applying for honoraria also may have their presentations evaluated. We hope that all eligible students take advantage of this opportunity to receive constructive input on their presentations.
