Directions For Preparation Of Abstracts
An abstract’s purpose is to summarize briefly the contents of an oral or poster presentation. Prepare your abstract carefully; it may be the primary reason others will want to attend your talk or view your poster. An abstract should elaborate on the title, highlight essential new results to be presented, and clearly summarize important new conclusions derived from your
study.
Abstracts that are incorrectly prepared or not accompanied by the registration form and fees will be returned, and will lose their order of priority for acceptance and assignment. Submit no more than one first-authored paper.
- ABSTRACTS MUST BE CLEAN AND ERROR-FREE
because they will be reproduced photographically. Abstracts that do not follow the prescribed format or that require retyping for reproduction will be rejected.
- ABSTRACTS MUST BE TYPED.
Use 12 pitch on a typewriter or a minimum of 10 point on a computer with six lines/inch. Use a letter quality or laser printer. Under no circumstances will the Local Committee be responsible for re-typing abstracts. If it does not meet the requirements it will not be included in the abstract book.
- ABSTRACTS MUST BE TYPED WITHIN THE SPACE PROVIDED on the Abstract Submission Form.
This form will be cut inside the black lines, reduced to 77% of the original size, and printed as submitted. Type title (ALL CAPITALS), followed by names and then addresses of authors (Upper and lower case). Skip one line, and type abstract as one paragraph. BE SURE TO ORIENT THE TEXT PROPERLY-THE NARROW EDGE OF THE FORM IS THE TOP!
- FILL IN THE REST OF THE FORM AS INDICATED.
- Type author(s) first name first, then last name. List all authors first, then list all addresses in the same order as
authors.
- Type title (use capitals only where normally used in a citation). Underline scientific names.
-
Indicate name and phone number of person who will present the paper.
- Indicate whether the first author is an ASM member.
- Indicate whether the first author is a student, and if so, whether an evaluation is desired.
- Indicate whether an oral or poster presentation is preferred.
- Indicate audiovisual equipment needed.
- Select the most appropriate technical session topic and, if possible, select a second or third choice.
SUBMIT ABSTRACTS IN ENVELOPES LARGE ENOUGH TO AVOID CREASES IN THE ABSTRACT BOX. DO NOT FOLD YOUR ABSTRACT.
PLEASE REMEMBER
Abstracts must be submitted on the Abstract Submission Form, postmarked by 15 March 2002, AND accompanied by Registration Form and registration fees.
