(October 7, 2013) Kathleen Higgins, a 2011 visual arts graduate of McNeese State University, has won the KBYS logo contest for the new radio station - KBYS 88.3 FM - to be launched in spring 2014 on the McNeese campus.
Higgins, a graphic designer at Signs Now, designed the winning circular blue and gold logo with a retro look. Higgins - who also developed a secondary logo to be used for the station - received a $100 McNeese Bookstore gift card.
The non-profit radio station, supported by volunteers from McNeese and the community, will be located in a building on the west side of Ryan Street across from the main campus.
The format will broadcast several music genres, special hosted shows, information about McNeese cultural events, news and announcements related to weather and road conditions. Plans also include streaming the audio on the Internet for alumni and friends outside the Lake Charles broadcast area.
The contest was open to the public and entries were reviewed by a panel of judges selected by the Office of the President.
