First Time Freshmen

First-Time Freshmen Admissions Requirements
(Effective Spring 2011 - Summer 2012)

Graduates of Louisiana High Schools:

  • Completion of Regents Core AND
  • Need of no more than one developmental course AND
  • Have a minimum HS GPA of 2.0 AND
  • Meet at least one of the following:
    • ACT composite of 21 (SAT critical reading and math 980) or greater OR
    • High School GPA of 2.35 or greater OR
    • High School graduation rank in top 35%

Graduates of Home-School Programs or Out-of-State High Schools:

  • Group 1:
    • Meet same criteria as graduates of Louisiana high schools OR
  • Group 2:
    • ACT composite of 21 (SAT critical reading and math 980) or greater AND
    • HS GPA of 2.35 or greater AND
    • Need of no more than one developmental course OR
  • Group 3:
    • ACT composite score of 24 (SAT critical reading and math 1090) AND
    • Have a minimum HS GPA of 2.0 AND
    • Need of no more than one developmental course

Adult Students, Aged 21-24

  1. First-time freshmen aged 21-24 must meet minimum admission criteria as outlined above.
  2. First-time freshmen aged 21-24 who do not meet minimum admissions criteria may be admitted to the University in one of the following two ways:
    1. Enroll as a part-time degree seeking student. Students admitted under this category may enroll for no more than 6 hours in the fall or spring semesters and no more than 3 hours in the summer term. The part-time restriction is removed once the student earns 12-college level hours with an overall GPA of at least 2.0 and demonstrates that both developmental English and mathematics are not required.
    2. Enroll as a non-degree seeking student through the EASE program. EASE students are not eligible for financial aid or veterans' benefits. A student may transfer to a degree program and degree-seeking status once he/she earns 12- college level hours with an overall GPA of at least 2.0 and demonstrates that both developmental English and mathematics are not required.
  3. Additional information may be obtained from the Office of Admissions.

Adult Students, Aged 25 or Older

  1. First-time freshmen aged 25 or older must have received a high school diploma (GPA must be a 2.0 or better on a 4.0 scale) or GED or have an ACT composite of 18.

Other Categories of First-Time Freshmen

First-time freshmen who do not meet the criteria outlined above are encouraged to apply. McNeese may admit students by exception; however, admission exceptions are limited and are awarded on a competitive basis.
