McNeese Access Award
(Non Resident Fee Waiver for UNDERGRADUATE Students Only)
Available to Both Domestic AND International Students


Non Resident Fee Waiver
Non-resident students applying to McNeese for the first time who meet specific criteria will qualify for a waiver of non-resident fees. This waiver could save a student as much as $3,070 per semester, depending upon the number of hours for which the student registers. Access Award recipients must be enrolled full-time (min 12 hours) each semester.

Domestic Criteria
First-time freshmen or undergraduate transfers with less than 12 college-level hours will receive a non- resident fee waiver if they meet the following criteria:

  • A minimum ACT composite score of 21 (or minimum SAT score of 980) and

  • A cumulative high school GPA of 2.25 or higher on an unweighted 4.0 scale, and

  • Have no need for remedial coursework.

Transfer students who have completed at least 12 hours of college-level course work will receive a non-resident fee waiver if they meet the following criteria:

  • A cumulative GPA of 2.5 on college-level work and

  • Have no need for remedial coursework.

International Student Criteria
McNeese State University is excited to announce that the McNeese Access Award is now available to international students. The McNeese Access Award waives out-of-state fees for qualifying first-time freshmen and transfer students (graduate students are not eligible for this award). To receive the McNeese Access Award, you must enroll full-time. The following criteria for eligibility for this award are broken down into two categories: first-time freshman and transfer students.

To qualify for this award, a student must satisfy the regular admissions requirements as well as the following criteria:

First-time freshmen:

  • Have a minimum TOEFL score of 525 (paper-based) or 195 (computer-based)

  • Have a minimum 2.25 GPA from a recognized secondary program comparable to U.S. high school graduation.

  • Have no need for remedial course work*

Transfer student (12 hours or more at a U.S. institution):

  • Have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA on all college-level work completed

  • Have no need for remedial course work*

  • Be eligible to return to previous institution

Students must have either a national or residual ACT score (or comparable SAT score) of 17 in English and 18 in Math in order to be placed in college-level courses.   Beginning Fall 2005, students must score 18 in both English and Math to be placed in college-level courses.

The McNeese Access Award has been fully approved by the Board of the University of Louisiana System, effective September 8, 2003.

Students admitted under these criteria will remain eligible to retain this waiver as long as they maintain satisfactory academic progress. (2.0 cumulative GPA) Contact the Office of Scholarships & Testing for more information (337) 475-5140.

Students who do not meet the criteria for the non-resident fee waiver described above may qualify for one of several other non-resident fee waivers available at McNeese through the Office of Scholarships and Testing.
