The student is required to schedule an exam at least 2 days in advance of the original test date.
The student is to remind their professor to send over the exam to our office. We ask students to remind the professor after class on the last day of class before the exam. Example: If a professor announces that there will be an exam on Friday, then it is the student’s responsibility to remind the professor after class Wednesday to send over their exam.
The student is to take the exam the same time as everyone else in the class unless they have another class afterwards that would interfere with them receiving extended testing time. *Not all students receive extended test time. Some receive a distraction-free environment. Unless we have documentation stating that an individual should receive extended testing time then they are to follow the same regulations as everyone else.
If a student does have a class directly afterwards and it does not allow them to receive their extra time then we make other arrangements. Examples of other arrangements: If they do not have a class before the class they are testing in, we have them start the test earlier. (If they start the test earlier they are not allowed to leave until the regular class has started their test) If they have an earlier class then we make arrangements for them to take it the day before or later the testing day. It is our goal that the student take the exam as close to the scheduled class time as possible. The student is responsible for talking this over with their professor and deciding when they are to take their test.
Students are not allowed to miss another class in order to take a test. Professors may give the student a different test if it is “weighted the same”. Professors may not give the class an objective test such as a scantron test and give the disabled student a test in a different format such as an essay test. When students are sick or if they miss a test, it is their responsibility to contact their professor to discuss what they missed or to make other arrangements.
This office does not interfere with a professor’s absentee policy.
If a professor chooses to provide the accommodation themselves, they are expected to contact this office to make sure they are properly providing the accommodations required by the ADA. The professor has the right to provide the accommodations if they wish as long as they are provided correctly.
If a student has more than one exam on the same day, in order for the student to be allowed to take one of the exams on another day, the student must get permission from one of their professors and make arrangements with them to contact us.
