WATER VESSEL SAFETY PROGRAM

PRE-OPERATIONAL CHECKLIST

UNIVERSITY OWNED WATER VESSEL

(To be competed by operator prior to using water vessel)

 

 

 

_____   Outboard motor clamps are firmly fastened to transom of vessel.

 

_____   Checked to ensure steering system of boat works properly.

 

_____   Checked to ensure proper plug is in boat and working properly.

 

_____   Trailer is attached to tow ball and trailer lights are plugged in.

 

_____   Checked to ensure brake lights and turn signals are working properly.

 

_____   Tires on trailer good shape/adequate pressure.

 

_____   Checked fuel lines to assure there were no leaks.

 

_____   Checked fuel tank to make sure full (fill tank prior to using vessel).

 

_____   Checked oil level to make sure filled to proper level.

 

_____   Made sure all on board equipment in vessel and in working order:

 

            _____   Six (6) type II PFDs.

 

            _____   USCG approved marine fire extinguisher—up to date.

 

            _____   Distress signal indicator works properly.

 

            _____   Horn/bell on board and working properly.

 

            _____   Tool kit has necessary tools in it.

 

            _____   Portable cellular phone is charged and working.

 

            _____   Up-to-date first aid kit.

 

            _____   Anchor on board.
