PURPOSE:
To
ensure good practices are followed during the maintenance and repair of vehicles
in the
University’s
transportation program.
2.0
RESPONSIBILITY:
It is
the responsibility of the personnel in the University’s automotive shop to
safely perform routine,
scheduled, preventive and
emergency maintenance and repairs on
vehicles in the transportation program.
Manuals are provided as
resource guides for new assignments while other tasks are performed based on
experience.

MAINTENANCE AND
REPAIRS

Duties include, but are
not limited to:

Clean and service
vehicles
3.2.2
Perform tune-ups, lube
jobs, brake checks, and oil changes
3.2.3
Respond to service
calls
3.2.4
Tow or drive vehicles to
shop for repair
3.2.5
Change flat
tires
3.2.6
Fill fuel
tanks
3.2.7
Tests and replaces
batteries as needed
3.2.8
Diagnosis minor
mechanical problems
3.2.9
Rotates, aligns, balances
wheels
3.2.10
Repairs carburetors,
ignition systems, and electrical components
3.2.11
Performs general
maintenance and repairs as needed
3.2.12
Verifies state vehicle
inspection sticker is current
3.2.13
Perform visual checks and
routine service:
3.2.13.1 Upon return after vehicle
usage.
3.2.13.2 Monthly on every vehicle
while using a walk-around checklist (Section 7:
Forms).
3.2.13.2.1.1 Forms are kept on file in
the automotive shop.

TRAINING AND
EXPERIENCE
4.1
Sufficient education and
experience is needed to demonstrate needed knowledge and abilities to perform
vehicle service, maintenance, and repairs in a safe and efficient
manner.

Skill to perform manual
tasks associated with vehicle service, maintenance, and
repair.
